SKEEM Saam actress’ dad, his girlfriend and co-accused will spend another weekend in custody.

The three accused appeared at the Magatle Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 1 February, and their case was remanded on Thursday, 8 February.

William Manku (53), Nonhlanhla Ngubo (42) and David Khoza (40) were arrested in January for the murder of Amanda Manku’s mother, Gladys Manku and her grandmother, Letty Maphothoma, who were murdered on 4 May 2021.

They face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, attempted murder, two counts of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

David Khoza, who is accused number 2, has decided to abandon bail; however, accused one and three’s lawyers have been arguing for bail application.

The state and defence cross-examined the investigating officer in the case, who said she had evidence that proved that the two accused shouldn’t be granted bail.

Nonhlanhla’s lawyer said that her client was suspended without pay, and she has to pay for her children’s school fees and her legal expenses.

While cross-examining the investigating officer, she asked her why she said her client would be a danger to William while they were standing in court next to each other.

“Has my client shown any signs of being in danger in court,” she asked.

The lawyer said her client would not be a danger to the community because she isn’t from Limpopo.

“Would you agree with me when I say that the only person my client knows here is accused number 2?” she asked the witness.

William’s lawyer said that there was information brought after the 30th that he wanted to add to the bail application.

Residents and the family of Maphothoma, who were among the people who filled the courtroom to capacity, said that they want to see the accused locked up.

“Two people were gunned down; bail shouldn’t be granted to them, and they should rot in jail,” they said.
