"Dear friends and family, Nompilo passed peacefully in her sleep last night. As a family we are still digesting the news and will update you about the funeral arrangements in due course," the post read.
The 29-year-old died on Monday, 30 October, after a long battle with cystic fibrosis. Her death was also announced on her Instagram page.
Nompilo became popular on social media, especially on X, because of her journey with her illness. In 2021, she started a GoFundMe page to raise R2 million, which she wanted to use to get a lung transplant.
At the time, rapper Cassper Nyovest said he was touched by her story and donated R150 000. He also challenged Drip founder Lekau Sehoana to match his donation.
“Your story touched me. You are such a positive soul. I will be rallying some of my friends and fans to help you get to India, and hopefully, we can get you a new set of lungs so you can live a long, lengthy life and inspire more people like you have inspired me. Stay strong,” he tweeted at the time.
Nompilo travelled to India at the beginning of 2022. However, she couldn’t get the transplant and decided to go back home because she said she was tired of being medicated.
