MASKANDI artists recorded a song to honour the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi for his contribution to the Zulu nation.
But sadly, the IFP founder died on Saturday, 9 September before the musicians could present the song to him.
So the musicians, Mfiliseni "Mqab’lasheshe" Magubane, Ntencane, Thokozani Langa, Khuzani Mpungose and Mthandeni Manqele went ahead and released the song, which is titled Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi on Saturday to honour the late IFP founder.
Mqab’lasheshe (58) told Daily Sun they are disappointed that Buthelezi died before they could present their song to him.
“His contribution is not changed by the fact that he is no more. Our song is relevant because we released immediately after his passing to honour him.
“Prince Buthelezi has made a big contribution to our nation and he deserved more. But as musicians, we only have our voices to thank him with and our music,” he said.
Mqab’lasheshe said that the main reason they decided to honour Buthelezi with a song is for his great contribution in leading the nation in both politics and traditional leadership.

Thokozani (51), who also released many songs to honour Buthelezi, told Daily Sun they learnt many things from him.
“uMntwana waKwaPhindangene led the nation with integrity. He was brave, standing for the truth even if other people were against it. He was a real man.
“We are using music as a universal language to honour him even though we are disappointed that he is no more. We planned to honour him with this song while he was still alive,” Thokozani told Daily Sun.
