IFP founder and Zulu Monarch Traditional Prime Minister Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will be laid to rest on Friday, 15 September.
This was confirmed by KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube after having a short meeting with the Buthelezi family on Sunday, 10 September.
Buthelezi (95), who was popularly known as uMntwana WakwaPhindangene, died at his home in KwaPhindangene in Ulundi, north of KZN in the early hours of Saturday morning, 9 September.
Dube-Ncube confirmed there is ongoing communication with the Presidency on the funeral arrangements. She stated that the funeral service and associated ceremonial logistics will be communicated in due course.

“In their quest to grieve the sad passing of Prince Buthelezi in private while accommodating mourners who are streaming in to pay their respects, the family has set up a marquee at the entrance of the homestead where a daily service will be held at 5pm.
“Communities are encouraged to attend the 5pm service so that they can allow the family the private space to prepare for the funeral,” she said.
KZN ANC chairman Siboniso Duma said they have written a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa asking to give Buthelezi a state funeral.
“The prince said he was having his bonus years. He quoted the Bible saying it is a bonus if a person lives 70 years. How we define it, is the end of the certain era and the new era must begin and that new era has the ANC and IFP,” he said.
