ANC AND IFP agree that Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi died still crying about a reconciliation between the two parties.
ANC visited the Buthelezi family at his home in KwaPhindangene in Ulundi, KZN on Sunday, 10 September.
ANC NEC member Dr Zweli Mkhize said what made Buthelezi want reconciliation between the ANC and IFP is because the parties worked together during apartheid fighting for liberation, but became enemies afterwards.
“Reconciliation for KZN people and South African people is important to go forward and if we do not fix that we might see bloodshed going forward because we never finished what we are supposed to finish,” said Mkhize.
Mkhize said Mzansi can have different political parties and flags but at the end of the day it about serving people.
“Ordinary black South African don’t really appreciate this fight. What they want to see is us changing their lives. The legacy left by our leaders, Madiba, Sisulu, Shenge and all the others is that we need to unite and remember it was never about the individual leader, it was always about our people, making sure that we improve their lives,” he said.
A senior IFP member who is also a Buthelezi family member, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, said after he received the news that Buthelezi is no more, he was more worried that he died when reconciliation didn’t happen.
“I remembered his words directed to President Ramaphosa, saying his last wish before he shut his eyes is to see IFP and ANC reconcile.
“It is regrettable that his wish was never fulfilled. It is another story if we will continue with it in future. We failed to fulfil his wish while he was still alive. He used to say he didn’t resign from the ANC,” he said.
Meanwhile, residents, amabutho and IFP members also arrived to mourn with the Buthelezi family.
