Claudina 'Clauds' Ramulondi said her second album is different from her first one.

RISING star Clauds went from thinking she would never be a recording artist to being a multi-award-winning musician.

The singer, whose real name is Claudina Muladelo Ramulondi (42), was teased because of her voice when she was young. This led her to not wanting to sing anymore.

But today she has three Limpopo Music Awards.

Clauds from Mashamba Village in Venda, Limpopo spoke to Daily Sun about her journey.

“I grew up around music because my father loved playing music loudly. He played everything from international stars such as Lionel Richie to Soul Brothers, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. And because I’m from royalty, we always participated in song and dance, and that also influenced my love of music. I was also in a school choir as young as 10 years old and the Sunday school choir as well.

“When I went to university, I was in the choir. However, I was always a backing singer, never in front because people used to make fun of my voice. So, I held back a bit and that’s the reason I was a backing singer for a long time,” she said.

However, she realised that music is her calling.

“In 2019, I met a challenge to a point where I needed to ask God what my purpose is and that question led me to that I need to sing. God said I cannot keep this voice to myself. From there, I started writing songs and released my album titled Zwonaka in 2019. In 2021, I was nominated for four awards at the Limpopo Music Awards and I won three. I even got a lot of airplay in London, UK.

“I never saw myself as a recording artist, but once it happened, big things happened,” the singer said.

Now, she just released her second album, titled Tshanduko in July, and she said it’s also doing well.

“The sound on this album has changed a bit. On my first album, I did live music. On the second album, I was more digital. I’m singing more Tshivenda now. Also, I didn’t want my two albums to compete. I had to change direction.

“And we’ve received good reception so far. We’re planning for some tours to promote it,” Clauds said.
