GEN-Z has taken over the radio, and old musicians feel like they are being robbed.
Mzwakhe Mbuli has asked music compilers to play their music as well.
The controversial poet and singer is begging for radio stations to play their music.
The 64-year-old Joburg-based musician said they are begging them to do so as their music is rich in African history and message.
He said this on Wednesday, 22 August, at the Cultural and Creative Industry Federation of South Africa held an artists briefing at Niki's Oasis Jazz Restaurant, Joburg.
"We make songs about our African struggles, and they are never played. They only play songs that don't have a message on the airwaves," he said.

"I'm pleading with radio stations to play our music as they are informative and guiding. Please do us a favour and play our songs."
Mzwakhe said he is tired of hearing music that doesn't have direction.
"For example, if I write a song called Vuka Darkie, which isn't even about hate speech, it won't even be played on the radio. But these meaningless songs get played a lot," he said.
Mzwakhe said this shows that something isn't right in the country.
"We are not going to keep quiet as artists. We will stand up for what is right," he said.
The musician said he will always make sure that he tells the truth.
"I'm a very spiritual person, and if something isn't right, I have to speak up. This is because if I don't speak, it's a sin before God," Mzwakhe said.
