The awards are organized by Umkhokha: The Curse and Uzalo actor Kininonke ‘Kini’ Shandu to honour his late mother and other women who are work hard.

Shandu said he named the awards after his mother’s name Sebenza because she was a philanthropist who helped many people.

“KZN women work hard and many of them are still young, and their hard work in different industries needs to be recognized,” he said.

Shandu said he is happy that this year they are celebrating five years in recognizing women with awards.

“It has been a long journey and the five years is too big to achieve because many people don’t achieve it even in their love relationships.

“I remember during our first edition we had no money, and we were left in debts as we had no sponsors and the government didn’t sponsor us. We are happy that now we have sponsors, but other sponsors are still welcome,” he said.
