UKHOZI FM has not permanently replaced Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu.

The country’s biggest radio station, with over seven million listeners, has announced the 2024/25 line-up.

Ukhozi FM's programmes manager, Pearl Maseko, made the announcement on Monday, 18 March, during the Vuka Africa Breakfast show.

Maseko said they haven't found a replacement for Beekay, who co-hosted a maskandi show every Saturday from noon to 3pm.

“We all know we just lost one of us, Beekay Mchunu. That forced us to temporarily appoint Tshatha to take on the Sigiya Ngengoma show. We're not saying he's permanently taking over the show. He's filling in for now while we discuss as management.

“Tshatha will work with Bingelela Mpanza until we find a permanent replacement as the management for that show," she said.

Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe joined Ukhozi FM 19 years ago and was Beekay’s friend and colleague at the station.

Beekay (45) died on Tuesday, 12 March. He was buried at his ancestral hometown in Empangeni, KZN, on Sunday, 17 March.

During the memorial service for Beekay at SABC Durban M1 studios on Friday, 15 March, his brother Sfiso Mchunu pointed out that it will be hard to replace his brother and said he wished SABC well in finding someone who'll try to fill Beekay’s position.

"We've lost a leader. To the team that worked with Beekay, we are with you. We wish you well to find someone who will try to match Beekay," Sfiso said.
