KAYA 959 presenter and businessman, Sizwe Dhlomo, has set the record straight on the drama that has allegedly unfolded at the commercial radio station.
Media reports has it that Kaya has allegedly fired the station manager, Sibongile Mtyali.
This comes after she allegedly refused to fire sports presenter Mpho Maboi, who recently joined the station.
The call to have her fired allegedly emanated from an altercation Maboi had with Dhlomo over daily meetings Dhlomo requested they have before his daily show, Kaya Drive.
According to reports when Dhlomo reported Maboi to the station manager, things didn’t go as he had planned which led him taking the matter to the station’s board.
A source from City Press told the paper: “Since Sizwe did not get what he wanted, numerous people have anonymously lodged complaints to the board about Mtyali, citing that she is never available to staffers and she does not resolve complaints, basically saying that she’s a bad manager. The allegations were investigated and proven to be untrue, but they terminated her contract anyway.”
In a tweet thread, Dhlomo said he wants to correct some inaccuracies.
He said Sibongile took him into a meeting and said that Mpho would be joining the team, meaning that the Sandile who was their sport presenter would leave.
He said he was asked what he thought about that.
“I said no problem. I’ll work with whomever you give me. No reason was given for Sandile’s removal.”
“Our show meeting starts at 13:00. It’s something I instituted when I first got to Kaya. Everyone attends and if you aren’t in the building at the time, you can do so virtually,” said Dhlomo.
He said Mpho started missing those, literally a week after joining their show.
“It meant she didn’t know what was being discussed. It meant she would sometimes not have a sports trivia prepped on air and that was jeopardising the quality of the show.”
“So, I spoke to her twice on record and when she continued, I went to her manager for him to address it,” he said.

He said Mpho then skipped her manager and called Sibongile instead.
“I then asked why did you remove a person who obviously could deliver for someone who couldn’t?
Dhlomo said Sibongile’s response was he will work with whomever they tell him to.
He said the following day, HR then tried to send him an email stating that their show meeting should be moved to accommodate Mpho and that he should no longer be involved in the music department as he had always been.

“I reported that directly to the board, copying both Sibongile and the HR. The board launched an investigation, staff members came forward to testify and I suppose this is the outcome of it,” he said.
When Daily Sun contacted Mtyali about Sizwe’s claims and her being fired from the station she said: “As much as I’d like to comment on this matter, I am not in a position to as the matter is sub judice.”
