MUSICIAN Nkanyiso Mkhize dreams big.
The singer and guitarist from Hammarsdale, west of Durban said he wants to open doors for up-and-coming artists.
The 26-year-old self-taught guitarist, who hails from a kasi that has produced top musicians such as the late David Masondo of Soul Brothers, Nomcebo Zikode and Mduduzi Ncube, said he also wants to leave his mark in the entertainment industry.
He said he'll never forget an opportunity he got when he was booked to perform on Uzalo in 2021 during Bobo and MaMadlala’s proposal on TV in 2021.
Nkanyiso who is an Afro-soul, house music and gospel singer has established his recording studio called Soul Record located in his kasi.
He told Daily Sun that while he wants to be a successful musician, he also wants others to rise with him.

“I started doing music in 2017 when I was doing gospel. The idea of having a recording studio came last year after I noticed that there's a lot of talent in my township but there's no proper studio," he said.
Nkanyiso said he was concerned by the challenges faced by up-and-coming artists using inadequate equipment in their backyard studios. That's why he decided to help them produce better-sounding music.
The muso is preparing to release his new song titled Ngingayaphi, where he worked with an up-and-coming beat maker Mr Nazoke from Hammarsdale.
Nkanyiso said he started his music career as a gospel musician but later he turned to Afro-soul when he was inspired by his neighbour Mduduzi Ncube.
“We were in a band called Gammy Band with Mduduzi Ncube and he played a guitar for us, and we released a Covid-19 song titled Umkhuleko in 2020 and I fell in love with playing guitar.
“Because he was busy as a popular musician, he didn’t get time to teach me. So, I looked for a tutorial on YouTube, and I ended up learning how to play it," he said.
Nkanyiso has released Afro-soul songs such as Ngikhetha Wena and Awusekho.
