TO Lalah Hathaway, music is a spiritual thing.
The Grammy Award-winning American singer and songwriter is set to make her way to Mzansi for An Intimate Evening with Lalah Hathaway four-concert tour.
Speaking to the media on a Teams call during dinner at Kanpai Restaurant in Rosebank, Joburg on Thursday night, 11 January, Lalah said she's excited to be coming to the country for the third time.
She said she wants to speak life and light when she comes to Mzansi next week.
“We are going to give you the greatest show. We are putting the show together and I am trying to include as much as my 35 years career in a song,” she said.
She said music is very special to her as she grew up surrounded by melodies in her home.

“I grew up in a house full of music. My parents and grandparents were musicians, so it ran through the family, and it doesn’t seem like anything ordinary for me,” she said.
Lalah said music is more spiritual for her.
“For me, music is 100% spiritual. It's a gift to me alone. I know I won’t be able to live it when I am gone. It's a way for me to relate with my late father. I am kind of a shy person, and I am probably introverted and when people ask me about my dad and my music I would say if you listened to the records you will know,” she said.
When asked about her upbringing, Lalah said it made her a humble person.
“I am pretty grounded; my mum is also grounded. We grew up very regularly. I never felt like a child of a celebrity, and I am a person that my profession is one part of who I am. I have all my down time with my friends. I have a very centred kind of grounding tribe of women around me. I have a friend group that is chef’s kiss,” she said.
