THIS year is set to be big for South African comedian Trevor Noah.

On 11 December, he was announced as one of the nominees for the Golden Globe Awards in the category Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television alongside Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Silverman and Wanda Sykes.

He’s also nominated for two other major awards, namely the Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards.

His recording, I Wish You Would, has been nominated for Best Comedy Album and Best Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) at the Grammys and Emmys respectively.

Trevor (39) had an interview with Gold Derby on YouTube and said he never thought he’d ever be nominated for a Golden Globe.

“I was a kid growing up in South Africa seeing Wanda Sykes on TV as one of the funniest human beings I've laid eyes upon. And now, to be in a category nominated alongside her is such a joy. It's a pleasure, and it's everything."

“Chris Rock is somebody who I've seen from afar for so long and then he became a mentor and a friend. I mean that's insane to me, it's a surreal experience."

Trevor will also host the Grammy Awards for the fourth time this year.

He spoke about returning to the Grammy for the fourth time and said it’s because he enjoys hosting the show.

“I love the show. First of all, and I say this very selfishly, I think the Grammys is the best award show because it has a baked-in advantage in that it is the only award show where all the people performing and all the nominees, etcetera, are part of the show."

“To state it better, at the Grammys everyone that performs is a musician performing because they're nominated at the Grammys. But if you're at the Emmys or the Oscars oftentimes you need music to bolster the show and so the Grammys is a concert. If I look at it selfishly, I go ‘this is one of the best concerts you'll ever go to in your life’ because what other concert would you ever go to where you get to watch Harry Styles and Lizo, Bad Bunny and Casey Musgraves?” Trevor said.

The Golden Globes will be held on 8 January, while the Emmys follow on 15 January and the Grammys on 5 February.
