HIP-HOP musician Shon G is back with a bang after disappearing from the music scene for a while.

Shon G, whose real name is Mpumelelo Gumbi from KZN South Coast, is tackling challenges of Mzansi people with his music.

He has released a single titled Ekhaya, which is about what people face on a daily basis.

Shon G, who was once signed by Zakes Bantwini under his stable Mayoni Production in 2012, said he just wanted to take a break and find himself.

“I had disappeared in the music scene because I was recording my new songs. Music is in my blood, and I want my friends to listen to it.

“Many of them asked me to come back and make music that will be heard by everyone. Then I decided to come back in the game and give people what they want,” he said.

He said he uses music as a tool to tackle challenges that Mzansi people face on a daily basis.

“The youth is complaining about unemployment even though they have graduated from tertiary institutions and have qualifications.

“We don’t trust our leaders. There are tyres burning everywhere because it seems like it is the only language our leaders understand. There is also the issue of GBV, and we have a big problem of load shedding,” Shon G said.

He said he's done recording his full album but he will not release it now and will, in the meantime, release singles.

“For now, I’m just testing the waters to see how people respond to my new music. So far, I have one single titled Ekhaya.

“After this, I will continue to release other singles to give music lovers what they want,” he said.
