WHEN she is on stage, she has confidence, but the singer confessed that she wasn’t always like that.
The Ghanaian-South African singer Layla Mpho Mokoena, popularly known as Chayuta, said growing up she was shy and afraid to speak in public.
The 20-year-old singer said music changed her life and made her a confident young woman.
Chayuta broke onto the music scene in 2021 after releasing her first professional song titled Solo.
The singer, who is also former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena’s daughter, told Daily Sun that she had many insecurities growing up.
“I was very shy and timid. I wouldn’t open my mouth in a crowded room at all,” she said.
She said music impacted her confidence in a great way.

“Music has helped me a lot. It helped me build my self-confidence, and now I can perform in front of a huge crowd. I couldn’t even sing in front of five people, and even if it was my family members, I wasn’t able to do that,” she said.
She said her shyness and lack of confidence were challenging, but she worked on it.
“I got deeper into music and started doing a lot of vocal training. My vocal coach taught me different aspects of how to be more confident in my sound and in front of a room full of people and to just do me,” she said.
Chayuta recently released a song called Getaway. She said the song is about taking a break from work and life and going on a vacation.
She said it's important for one to go on a vacation so that they can come back energized and ready to work harder.
“I feel like it’s important to Getaway because a lot of people get lost in their work and responsibilities, and I feel like they should connect with themselves because I am one of those people; when I work, I focus on my work and forget about the fact that I am young and I have to enjoy,” she said.
