Khosi Ngema has ventured into music and released a single titled Why.

BLOOD & Water actress, Khosi Ngema always knew that she was destined for stardom!

Although acting already flows in her blood, she wants to do more than just acting. In addition to being one of the lead actors in the Netflix show, she is also a model and most recently, a singer.

She's the daughter of actor Mangaliso Ngema, who has starred in shows such as Housekeepers and Family Secrets, among others.

The 23-year-old is building a name for herself as a global artist.

She spoke to Daily Sun about releasing her debut single and building her brand.

“I’ve always known that I wanted to get into music, even before I got into acting. I grew up in a creative family. Even my grandmother was a singer in her time.

“I started writing my own music when I was 15. I learned to play the guitar and piano. Over the years, I’ve been honing my craft and most recently, I've learned to produce music," Khosi said.

"Sometimes, I felt like I couldn’t express certain ideas I had and being hands-on inspired me to push and release music.”

Khosi released her new single, Why on Friday, 29 March.

“I thought it was time to release music because I feel I’m at a point where I know myself. I think I’m more mature and ready to explore that side of things.

“The song Why, I remember when I made it, was spontaneous. I wanted to experiment with different genres I’m used to play with. Basically, the song talks about releasing and coming back to yourself,” she said.

So far, the singer is impressed by her fans' response, so she'll be releasing more music.

“I take the music thing personally and seriously. It’s my life, I intend creating more music and exploring that field. People's response to Why is positive. It’s a nod, a reaffirmation. I’ll be dishing out more singles. I also intend releasing a full body of work sometime this year,” she said.

Speaking about making a name for herself, Khosi said she’s tried to build a brand outside of her dad's shadow.

“Acting is my passion and what I want to do. Funny enough, my dad has been against me being an actor. He never discouraged me but was never for it either. The most my dad did was to take me to all the castings. I intended paving my own way. But I pay homage and acknowledge to the people in my family who are my predecessors.”
