ACTRESS Masasa Mbangeni has appealed to South Africans to be gentle with her and not question her weight gain.

In her tweet, she said she lost relatives, friends and jobs during lockdown but gained weight.

She wrote: “Please be gentle with us who gained weight over the global pandemic. We were losing family, losing friends, losing jobs. Weight was the only gain. Please be gentle. I remember the first wave I lost a family member every month. Literally. Please be gentle.”

The post quickly became a platform of sharing personal experiences for Twitter users.

Refilwe wrote: “I lost about 15 people while trying hard to stay alive and not get infected. Sigowile strong for a whole year.”

Pitsi Africa commented: “I was just thinking today that I managed to maintain my body weight for 10 years ever since I lost quite a bit of weight, and losing a loved one changed everything for me. I’m learning to adjust and accept all the changes that are happening with my body daily.”

Cruise Queen said: “Condolences ousi... we’re lucky we gained weight. Some of us nearly lost the mental health battle along with the family members and jobs... and partners nje.”
