DAVID Kau is a golf fanatic.

The comedian said when he’s not on stage entertaining people, he’s playing golf.

“I started playing golf in 2019 and since then, I've never looked back.

“I’ve been playing a lot of pro games and I’m happy with my game. I’m so hooked on the sport, and I play golf almost every day,” he said.

David said he hit his driver well but needs to work on his short game. He plays of handicap 19.

“My short game is the worst. I need to stop three putting on the green. I always get butterflies and panic when I need to slot in the short putts.

“If I started golfing at a young age, I think I could have considered playing golf professionally,” he said.

David said he was happy to participate in the Gary & Vivienne Player Invitational tournament held at The Lost City Golf Court in Sun City, North West, from Saturday, 18 November, to 19 Sunday, November.

“I’ve met Mr Player several times in the golf course and at the events."

“I always got a lot of advice from Player on how to improve my game, and I was excited to play at the tournament,” he said.

The comedian from Maokeng near Kroonstad in the Free State, who now lives in Midrand, said he has his golf shoe brand.

“The David Kau Veldskoen golf shoes came out in September, and I’m happy to have a shoe named after me," he said.

David said he never wanted to be a comedian.

But it turned out to be his career, and he's celebrating 25 years as a stand-up comedian.

David has performed in Black Only comedy show for 19 years.

He said he wanted to be an actor and was inspired by Tony Kgoroge.

In 1995, he started studying electrical engineering but dropped out in his second year for a performers' diploma in speech and drama at the University of Cape Town.

He stormed onto the comedy scene in 1998 by becoming the first black stand-up comedian at the Smirnoff Comedy Festival in Cape Town.

David will host one-man shows on 1 and 2 December in Midrand and at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice, respectively.
