"DON'T give officers tjotjo!"
This was an appeal by MMC for Community Safety Sizakele Masuku to motorists.
Masuku was among senior Ekurhuleni officials, including Mayor Sivuyile Ngondwana and EMPD Chief of Police Isaac Mapiyeye, who attended the opening of the Easter Road Safety Season in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni on Wednesday, 27 March.
They spoke to motorists and checked the roadworthy vehicles.
"Don’t corrupt our officers, obey the law because that could prevent accidents. If the police officers check the car and find that it has defects, motorists should allow the officers to issue the appropriate tickets because if they bribe the officers and leave, they are putting the lives of many people in danger," Masuku said.

She also urged taxi drivers not to overload their vehicles or drink and drive.
"They should abide by the rules of the road and ensure that commuters get to their destinations safely," she said.
EMPD chief of police Isaac Mapiyeye said the launch is aimed at getting motorists to obey the law to avoid accidents.
Mapiyeye said they wanted to send a message to pedestrians and motorists to take care of themselves.
Ekurhuleni Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana said: "Most residents will be travelling to other provinces over the Easter holidays. We are appealing to taxi drivers and motorists to check their cars for roadworthiness and obey the road laws. Motorists should not drive under the influence of alcohol to ensure that they take commuters to their destinations."
Taxi driver Maxwell Theledi said he was pleased with the action because it was about the safety of road users.
"The safety of commuters and other motorists is crucial, we need to ensure the safety of all road users," he said.Another motorist, Grace Sibiya from Tsakane, said: "We need to be safe on the road, accidents affect everyone."
