Tebello Tshabalala from Diepkloof Extension in Soweto loves reading, spending time with family . . . and riding her bike!
Q: What bike is this?
A: It’s a Yamaha R6.
Q: When did you start biking?
A: I started in 2012.
Q: How was your first ride?
A: It was amazing! I struggled a lot in that year. I fell a couple of times and injured my foot. I had to park my bike for a few months but I never gave up.
Q: How often do you ride?
A: I don’t ride all the time but try to get in as much as I can when I can.
Q: What was your first bike?
A: The same. My R6 is awesome! People approach me and ask to buy my bike but I always tell them I am not selling.
Q: What do you love most about your bike?
A: This bike has everything I need. It rides smooth, fast, forgives my mistakes and I love its colour.
Q: What colour is it?
A: Mostly yellow with black.
Q: Have you got any traffic fines?
A: I can only answer depending on who is asking . . .
Q: Tell us about your outfit?
A: It’s always safety first but I love this suit because it doesn’t make me look like a boy, like other suits I own. This one was custom made for me and my figure.
Q: How far have you ridden?
A: The longest ride was when I went to Swaziland and then to Margate in KZN.
Q: Are you a member of a club?
A: Not yet.
Q: Is this bike your future bike?
A: Not really. I am colourful human which means I would like a variety of different bikes in different colours – if money was no object.
I think my dream bike would be an adventure bike for on and off-road riding. I’d love the KTM 1190 Adventure. I look forward to doing some sand dunes. That should be fun!
