Toyota has added more versions to its Fortuner and Hilux ranges.
There is a new entry-level 4X4 model to the Fortuner line-up while the Hilux gets more automatic versions.
What’s more, Toyota is also increasing the number of features available.
Fortuner
Previously, 4X4 enthusiasts had to buy the Fortuner 2,8-litre GD-6 version to get the only one with off-road capabilities, but now the 2,4 GD-6 is also available as a 4X4 and it’s also fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox. This part-time four-wheel-drive system has low-range gearing to tackle the hardest off-road conditions.
Engines across the range remain as before, with the 2,4 GD-6 turbodiesel developing 110kW and 400Nm, while theand 2,8 GD-6 turbodiesel available in manual and automatic. There’s also a normally aspirated 2,7-litre petrol as well as a 4,0 V6 engine.
In terms of specifications, Toyota has upped the safety features for the 2,4 GD-6 and 2,7 versions with the addition of side and curtain airbags.
Also, the electrically operated tailgate – which was previously only available on the 4,0 V6 model – is now a standard feature on the 2,8 GD-6 version.
Hilux
Double cab buyers are lately choosing more and more automatic gearboxes.
Therefore Toyota is expanding the double cab range with an automatic gearbox for the 2,4 GD-6 SRX 4X4, while the Xtra cab line-up gains an automatic gearbox 2,8 GD-6 Raider option in both 4X2 and 4X4 drives.
Raider versions with an automatic gearbox in the single cab, with the 2,4 GD-6 4X4 SRX drive, and 2,8 GD-6, with 4X2 or 4X4 drive, are also now available.
In addition, various other specification improvements have been made across the Hilux range.
As before, all Hilux and Fortuner models come a five-year/90 000km service plan and three-year/100 000km warranty.
Pricing for the Fortuner line-up kicks off at R444 500 and the Hilux’s pricing starts at R243 200.
