GETTING AHEAD IN CORPORATES

accreditation

AS we wrap up Women’s Month, how about some money and wealth tips from those who have travelled the journey?

Denise Nel, chief marketing officer for Wealth Migrate, said when she started her career in the male-dominated Mzansi financial markets, she was told that this was no place for “girls who weren’t prepared to put on their big girl panties.

“I realised I had to take risks and break their old stereotypes about women.”

So what are some useful tips women need to succeed financially?

Mentorship, leadership and motivation

One of the most valuable assets is a mentor who understands the challenges you face and can guide you through the industry’s politics and offer their own experience.

A mentor can push you harder, highlight opportunities and nurture confidence.

Positive attitude and patience

Keeping a positive attitude with a good amount of patience will serve you well.

Networking and building up your contacts

This is a big part of the job in corporate industries, let alone the financial sector.

This is often done in environments which are not always female friendly but breaking through this barrier is necessary to learn from the challenges it brings.

Strength, structure and confidence

The financial sector is a very results-driven sector, with no time to waste. You need to prove yourself and sometimes it’s necessary to be a little outspoken as well.
