THE FACTS
NKHUMISENI Nebonde from Shayandima, Thohoyandou said when he filed his tax return last year he was told by Sars he owed money for an income that he was receiving. When he told Sars he doesn’t know the company and had never worked there, he was told to make an affidavit, which he did. He also went to the company and found that his lost ID had been used with a different photo. He opened a fraud case and took all this information to Sars, but they still wants him to pay penalties.

SOLUTION
Since he has already opened a fraud case, the next step is to get verification documents from the department of home affairs He must then lodge an identity fraud case with Sars, which they will investigate. If Sars does not respond, the matter has to be taken up with the tax ombudsman.
