KEEPING a good relationship with your neighbours is a fine thing.
This is why the Dollar Social Club was formed in May 2014.
The club has 21 members who live at the Million Dollar section of Paardekraal, North West.
Tabea Baloyi, chairwoman of the club, told SunStokvel: “We were all new to the area, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a stokvel. I sent out letters to my neighbours to find out if they’d be interested in joining.”
Since then each member has been contributing R100 a month.
“We used to hold our meetings on the street corner.
“But as from this month, we will hold the meetings at members’ homes. We use the money to buy household items for members,” said Tabea.
“After this we will start buying things like tents, chairs, mobile toilets, stoves and pots for our society.
“We will rent out these items to try and make enough money for the club.”
She said getting to know your neighbours, and what they do for a living, was what their club was all about.
“It’s also vital to be on good terms with your neighbours because they are your eyes and ears when you are not at home.”
