HISTORY is beckoning for University of Pretoria, who look to bag a hat-trick of Varsity Football titles.
Tuks will visit neighbours Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in the fifth edition of the Varsity Football Cup final at an already sold-out TUT Stadium on Thursday (6pm).
But the TUT game will not be a walk in the park, as they will be gunning for their second title.
TUT finished at the top of the mini-league table with 17 points – three points ahead of second-placed Tuks on 14 points.
Tuks defeated University of the Western Cape 3-1 in the one semifinal while TUT edged Central University of Technology 6-5 on penalties in the other after a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time.
TUT are unbeaten in 16 games in the competition but Tuks are determined to end their proud record and lift the trophy in their opponents’ backyard.
Tuks skipper Lawrence Ntswane and TUT captain Themba Ndlovu will carry their teams’ hopes.
Ntswane is banking on his team’s experience in winning big matches.
He said: “We mean business and are out to break some hearts. Our goal is to lift the trophy and to end their unbeaten run.
“We have never lost this cup final and won’t lose this one.”
But Ndlovu, TUT’s top scorer with seven goals, has promised to score at least another two goals in the final.
He said: “I always score against Tuks. We won’t surrender our unbeaten record, not to our main rivals. We will win.”
