THE Confederation of African Football’s newly elected president, Ahmad Ahmad, will bring new changes to football in the continent.
So says South African Football Association (Safa) president, Danny Jordaan, who was also elected to the Caf Executive Committee on Thursday.
Jordaan said all the competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), will be reviewed.
Jordaan said: “We will review all the competitions, including the number of teams that qualify for the Afcon. The 16 teams that make up Afcon are not enough.
Jordaan hailed Ahmad’s election from the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) as the breakthrough that African football needed.
Safa played a key role in helping Ahmad to end the 29-year reign by Hayatou of Cameroon.
“People had to decide if they wanted 33 years of the same thing or if they wanted change,” Jordaan added.
Ghana, Nigeria, Mzansi, Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, are some of the countries that were the driving force behind the changes.
Jordaan received 35 votes and it was a case of third time lucky because he had been battling to become an executive member for years.
Cosafa now has three representatives in the new elected Caf Committee.
Jordaan added that Safa will announce the new Bafana Bafana coach this week. He said Safa have found their man and will be introduced to the public soon.
