KAIZER Chiefs’ Caf Champions League first round, second leg fixture against Ivory Coast giants Asec Mimosas is expected to go ahead as planned in Abidjan on Sunday.
There were fears that the match might be postponed or moved to another venue outside the Ivory Coast capital following a terrorist attack in the city on Sunday, where 16 people, including two soldiers, were killed.
However, Safa spokesman Dominic Chimhavi said they had not received any notification from the controlling body, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) that the match has been postponed or moved to another venue.
Said Chimhavi: “Until we hear anything to the contrary, it is business as usual and the match will go ahead as scheduled.”
Chiefs spokesman Vina Maphosa said they had been in contact with the Ivory Coast embassy in Pretoria yesterday: “We were told by the Ivory Coast embassy that it is safe to travel. We have also been in contact with the South African embassy in the Ivory Coast and collecting information.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and gather information this week.
“We are preparing to leave Joburg on Thursday, unless Caf or Safa tells us differently.”
Amakhosi go into the match on the back foot after losing the first leg played at the FNB Stadium 1-0 at the weekend.
Ivory Coast president Alassane Outtara assured the media yesterday: “The situation is under control.”
