MZANSI clubs suffered mixed fortunes in the Caf competitions!

Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against unknown Chicken Inn in their Caf Champions League preliminary round at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo yesterday.

Mitchell Katsvairo’s first-half strike helped the Zimbabwean champions to register a famous win.

They ended the Brazilians 19 matches unbeaten run to take a one goal advantage going into the return leg in Tshwane in two weeks time.

The odds were heavily stacked against the Bulawayo minnows as the Brazilians were expected to stroll to a big win.

The Tshwane giants are a force to be reckoned with in the domestic league.

Their surprise defeat is without a doubt the biggest upset of the weekend.

Coach Pitso Mosimane fielded his galaxy of stars except Zimbabwean in-form midfielder Khama Billiat, who was sidelined by injury.

The six times SA premiership champions are still the overwhelming favourites to go through to the next round despite the setback.

The Brazilians need to score two goals without conceding to book their ticket to the second round.

Ajax Cape Town defeated Angolan giants Sagrada Esperanca 2-1 in the small town of Dundo.

Roger De Sa’s charges have one foot into the Confederation Cup second round.

They will look to end the match as a contest in Cape Town in two weeks time.

In Seychelles, Bidvest Wits were too strong for the local side Light Stars FC thumping them 3-0 in their Confederation Cup preliminary round.

Dillon Sheppard, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Markus Lecki scored the away goals for Gavin Hunt’s men.

Coach Hunt rested his star players such as Moeneeb Josephs, James Keene, Daine Klate and skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo, but the Clever Boys had no problem coming away with a comprehensive win.

Defending league champions Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to get their Champions League campaign off to a positive start in Comoros Islands today (2pm).

Amakhosi face Comorian league champions Volcan de Moroni at Stade Said Mohamed Chesikh in Mitsamioli.
