ROGER de Sa says he will only venture into the transfer market if there is a special player available. The new Maritzburg United head coach is convinced he has a good squad at his disposal.
“Obviously there is room for improvement. I have only had six training sessions with them and they are looking good. At the moment there isn’t much beefing up for us to do. But if there’s someone special who becomes available, we will go for him,” said De Sa.
The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper admits he has received a number of phone calls from agents looking for work for their clients.
“I will sit down with the chairman (Farook Kadodia) at end of the week and see if we should go to the market.
“I have already received several CVs from agents advertising available players. We will see if there is anyone out there for us.”
Former United coach Ernst Middendorp beefed up the team with 10 new faces during the off-season and those players have been key in the Team of Choice’s improvement in the first round of the season. De Sa said, however, that he wanted to blend the current squad with young players.
“The previous coach has done a tremendous job with the team. I took the liberty of going to see our MDC team in action over the weekend. I was impressed by what I saw. The club has a good future. I’ve already invited some guys to train with the seniors.
“I’m impressed to see that the club has so many Under-23 players. Should we not get what we are looking for in the market, I could be promoting some players from that MDC team,” said the former Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town mentor.
United’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge team has already produced players for the first team. Bandile Shandu, who is the captain of the MDC team, Pogiso Sanoka, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Lebohang Maboe have proved quite capable, and De Sa said he was looking to add to that number.
