KINGSTON Nkhatha has described his reunion with Stuart Baxter at SuperSport United as a breath of fresh air.
Nkhatha had his best spells at Kaizer Chiefs under Baxter.
The 30-year-old Zimbabwean has had an average season but believes Baxter’s presence will help him rediscover the form that saw him shine at Amakhosi under the guidance of his favourite mentor.
Since Baxter’s appointment, Nkhatha has found the back of the net twice, a sign that he is already on his way to regaining his confidence.
Nkhatha said: “Baxter brings a different dimension to the team. He is a winner! We know what he is capable of achieving. He is a father figure to me, he does not shout and shows you how things are done. I understand his philosophy and I’m excited to be working under him again.”
Baxter is also happy to work with Nkhatha again: “I’m excited to see him. The main thing is to stabilise the team. It’s a huge challenge, but it’s not impossible to finish in the top eight.”
Matsatsantsa a Pitori have dropped to 12th spot in the table with 21 points from 18 games.
Injury and issues with form tampered with Nkhatha’s season, but he is confident he will capture the Nedbank Cup. He said they could also still salvage their poor season by qualifying for the top eight.
They host University of Pretoria in a Premiership Tshwane derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday (3.30.pm).
Matsatsantsa are going into the next game on the back of a disappointing 3-1 loss to Ajax Cape Town.
Nkhatha added: “We are not happy with our log position. We have to start collecting maximum points.”
Ex-coach Gordon Igesund had an open cheque book and signed 10 players but Baxter wants a small squad. He does want to sign players from Chiefs, however, if they become available.
