NFD teams clash for spot in Nedbank Cup

accreditation

NATIONAL First Division (NFD) teams will battle it out for a place in the Last 32 of the 2016-17 Nedbank Cup today.

Eight NFD teams will join 16 from the Absa Premiership and another eight from the ABC Motsepe League.

The Nedbank Cup is a firm favourite on the domestic programme among football lovers in Mzansi, as the outcome of games have been known to hold many surprises.

University of Pretoria, the surprise package of this competition in the 2008-09 season, are eyeing a spot in the Last 32.

AmaTuks will host Witbank Spurs in their qualifying match at Tuks Stadium (3pm), while NFD log leaders Thanda Royal Zulu will visit on-form Stellenbosch FC at Coetzenburg Stadium.

AmaTuks were defeated 2-0 by Spurs at the same venue in a league match two months ago.

Coach Shaun Bartlett says they are going into this game to rectify errors they made in that league clash.

He said: “It’s a cup game, we have to make sure we get the result, as that will help us improve our performance in general. Having played against Spurs in the league, this is a great opportunity for us to improve on the first game.

“It’s not about revenge, it’s about being the best, and to play to the best of our ability to advance to the next round.”
