AMAZULU captain Tapelo Nyongo says they are confident of beating Santos in their crunch National First Division match at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town tomorrow (3.30pm).
Usuthu will be playing Santos at the same venue for the second time in four days. The two first met on Wednesday in a Nedbank Cup qualification match that Usuthu won 4-3 on penalties after matters ended 1-1.
The Durban based team qualified for the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
Nyongo said even though he would not be playing in this match, his teammates were pumped up for the clash.
The skipper will sit this one out due to a knee injury and is likely to miss the remainder of the year.
“After the fight we put up when we beat Royal Eagles last week, we are highly motivated. Our fighting spirit and self-belief has returned,” said Nyongo.
The skipper added that they now knew everything there was to know about the People’s Team.
“We played on Wednesday and we feel we know them now. Even though we could only beat them on penalties, that has motivated us. At the end of the day we won and now we are looking to repeat it in the league on Saturday.
“To be honest, we didn’t really want the Nedbank game as much as we want league points!
“We are more focused on the league. Yes, we are happy that we are in the Nedbank Cup, but that match is over now.
“We need points and we aim to continue where we left off against Eagles,” said Nyongo.
Usuthu will also be without their experienced striker, Mabhuti Khenyeza, who will be sitting out his second match on suspension. Khenyeza was red-carded against Eagles and served his first match suspension against Santos on Wednesday.
