GOD’S POWERFUL WORD

accreditation

LUKE 5 says: “One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people crowded round him to listen to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.

“He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

When they did so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. In this passage we learn that the word of God has the ability to turn things around for your good.

Peter and his associates were professional fishermen and had the right skills and experience. When all they knew yielded no results, they washed their nets and gave in to failure.

Jesus then intervened and told Peter to let down his net into the waters for a great catch. Peter hesitated and told Jesus that he had tried that the entire night. Sometimes in life our skills, expertise, finances and resources seem not to be enough to get us through. We toil and toil without results.

But His word carries the power to make things work for us. At Jesus’ word, Peter did not have to change the place or his net to catch fish. The same lake, net and boat that had yielded nothing the previous night now gave up more than Peter could handle. Child of God, you need the divine word of God to make your life profitable again.
