WITH the ANC having suffered severe setbacks in Mzansi’s big cities in the local government elections, many loyal supporters of the party have been wondering where it all went wrong!

On Friday, amaXhosa King Zwelonke Sigcawu also shared his concerns when he spoke at the village of Weza in Willowvale on Friday.

King Sigcawu surprised many when he suggested that President Jacob Zuma should be removed to save the party.

He said: “Maqabane ukuba animfuni uZuma ningayivoteli nje IANC yithani uZuma mabamkhuphe ababantu abakhokhele naye” (If you didn’t vote for the ANC because you don’t want Zuma, then tell those in leadership to remove him), the king said to loud applause.

He was speaking at an event hosted by the department of justice and correctional service and in the presence of the minister, Michael Masutha.

He said it was important for those who were unhappy to address issues without leaving the party.

The king said even traditional leaders had to be held accountable.

Oscar Mabuyane, provincial secretary of the ANC, had not responded to calls for comment before going to print.
