WHEN the boy came home crying and holding his neck, his mother demanded to know what had happened.
Dineo Mofokeng (33) from Ivory Park extension 2, Ekurhuleni said her son told her a horror story of how a teacher assaulted him.
“He is now at home, refusing to go to school,” she said.
Another pupil took a video of the alleged assault in the classroom.
Dineo said: “My son told me the teacher had divided pupils into groups, and he asked to be put in a different group. He said the teacher shouted at him, choked and slapped him while other pupils watched. The teacher is still at school and has intimidated the pupil who took the video.”
And now police are investigating a case of assault against the teacher.
Dineo said she went to the school to see the principal. She claims the accused teacher was rude to her.
“While the principal was speaking to him, he stood up and slammed the door behind him. He didn’t show any regret for what he had done to my child.”
She said she wanted to lay a complaint against the teacher at the district office but the principal asked her not to take further steps.
“The principal is worried about the feeding scheme sponsorship and not my son’s health,” said Dineo.
She wants the teacher to be fired because her son won’t go to school while he is still there.
Ivory Park police spokeswoman Captain Nelda Sekgobela confirmed that police are investigating a case of assault. She said no one has been arrested.
- Gauteng Education spokesman Oupa Bodibe said the department was aware of the incident.
“The matter has been reported to our labour relations unit for appropriate action.
“We condemn any form of assault on pupils in schools. Corporal punishment is outlawed by the Constitution of the country.
“We have waged a stiff war against teachers who continue to assault pupils. And we will not hesitate to ensure that appropriate action is taken against perpetrators.
“The pupil is receiving counselling,” said Bodibe.
