EVEN as the doctor was putting the casts on her baby’s feet, Mammie was already pleading with him, saying they were too big.

But the doctor wouldn’t listen and after Mammie spent a night of hell with her tortured baby, she came to the People’s Paper in desperation.

Then SunPower stepped in – and now both Mammie and her two-month old baby are sleeping peacefully at last.

Tshiamo was born to Mammie Sebelebele (28) of Mmotong section in Kgabalatsane near Hebron, North West on 22 August.

It was immediately clear the boy had club feet and he received treatment at Dr George Mukhari Hospital in Tshwane.

A doctor there was trying to fix his feet with casts and last week Tshiamo was due for his fifth cast.

But it was too big for his tiny body and feet.

Mammie said as the doctor was putting on the casts she told him she thought they were too big, but the doctor didn’t listen.

He told her he knew what he was doing and said it was the right way.

Mammie couldn’t even dress the boy because the casts were so big. And when she showed the doctor, he said she should buy bigger clothes.

The child cried all night on Thursday night and on Friday she phoned Daily Sun.

The newspaper spoke to Gauteng Health spokesman Steve Mabona, who spoke to the hospital’s CEO. The monster casts were removed on Sunday.

Mammie said the CEO of the hospital called her personally and apologised.

“Thank you, Daily Sun. I am so happy!” she said.

“If it wasn’t for the People’s Paper my son would have faced the whole week being miserable. Now he is sleeping peacefully.”

  • A club foot is the term used to describe deformities at birth when a baby’s foot or feet are twisted out of shape.
