WHEN Nqobile Mthethwa-Ncayiyana is not consulting the ancestors, he writes down all his thoughts and turns them into scripts.
Nqobile is an inyanga turned scriptwriter and producer from KwaMashu, north of Durban.
Mkhulu, as he is popularly known, said: “I fell in love with writing at a young age and as I grew older, my love of movies grew as well.”
When he was still a matric pupil, he received the calling to become an ancestor. He followed his calling and went to Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo to learn more about medicine.
Mkhulu recently shot a local movie starring youths from KwaMashu and surrounding areas. It is currently being edited and will be available on DVD.
“The movie, called Umashaya, is about a young womaniser who meets his match, a new lover from the Eastern Cape.”
He said his dream is change Mzansi’s opinion of KwaMashu.
“It is not only about crime and violence. KwaMashu has amazing talent.”
