FOLLOWING two failed suicide attempts, Sanele Mbuthuma caused panic when he started a countdown to his funeral day at the beginning of the month.
His frustrated family members called Zion Church members on Sunday to cast the demon out of the young man’s life.
But Sanele (25) from KwaMashu, north of Durban allegedly refused the prayer, and took his life a few hours after the church members left.
On Monday, Sanele was found dead by his four-year-old niece.
According to cops, Sanele was found hanging from the rafters of his family home.
A relative told Daily Sun he had also swallowed crushed glass.
The relative alleged that Sanele started behaving strangely in August.
“He would say something was telling him to kill himself and six other family members but did not explain anything.
“Instead, he would get angry and threaten to kill everyone if he was questioned further,” said the relative.
Another source close to the family said when the Zion church members held the prayer service on Sunday, they made a prophecy that someone in the family was going to die.
“They offered a prayer to Sanele but he refused.
“After the church members left, he attempted to stab another family member.
“In fear, everyone left him in the main house and slept in an outside building.
“He was temporarily employed where he worked but supported his family very well,” said the source.
When the SunTeam visited the area, Sanele’s mum said she didn’t want to talk to the media.
KZN police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said an inquest docket was opened at KwaMashu Police Station for investigation.
