WHEN the contractor started building their RDPs in 2010, residents were excited about finally moving into proper houses.

But little did they know that more than seven years later, their houses would still be standing there unfinished.

Now residents of Ezakheni, Ladysmith have threatened to protest if they don’t get answers about the unfinished RDPs.

Resident Sizwe Mchunu (27) told Daily Sun: “We’ve been waiting too long for officials to talk to us about the unfinished RDPs.

“Nobody is telling us what went wrong, whether the contractor failed to finish the job or the money for the project disappeared.”

Mbulelo Baloyi, a spokesman for KZN Human Settlements Department, told the People’s Paper: “The department provides funding to municipalities.

“And if projects are stalled, the municipality is the first port of call.”

Alfred Duma mayor Vincent Madlala’s phone was on voicemail at the time of going to print.
