JULIA Mamabolo (50) is a disappointed woman.
Her only child, Dibageng Mamabolo (23), was arrested for robbery and sentenced to eight years in jail. He is serving his sentence at Kgosi Mampuru II Prison.
She said her son did bad things and mixed with the wrong people.
Julia, who lives in Kwaggasrand, Pretoria, told Daily Sun that crime robbed her son of his future.
“I always wanted the best for him, but he will spend a hard time in prison with dangerous criminals.
“He can’t blame me for what happened to him. I told him to stay away from bad friends and alcohol but he didn’t listen.”
She said people who break the law must pay for their actions and suffer the consequences. She believes jail will help teach her son to appreciate what a better life is.
She urged the municipality to build halls and sport facilities to prevent children from getting involved in drugs and criminal activities.
“I was saving money for my son’s computer studies but he has disappointed me a lot,” she said.
Kwaggasrand Councillor Danie Swanepoel said he met youth leaders who are starting programmes in the area to keep youngsters off the street.
“We want them to be involved in activities that are productive and uplifting,” he said.
