AS MZANSI observes 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children, women in Tshepisong, Mogale City have been left out.
They say their lack of water robs them and their children of dignity.
And even worse is their long walk to the only communal tap in the area. It’s 5km away. This leaves them vulnerable to attacks from rapists and thieves!
The kasi hasn’t had water for over two months, and before that their water was always dirty – yet it was better than nothing at all.
Yesterday furious residents contacted Daily Sun.
They claimed that despite efforts to raise their concern with Joburg Water, their complaints fell on deaf ears.
Neighbourhood mums have no choice but to face the dangerous journey past tsotsis.
Asanda Vela (32) told Daily Sun: “We have been without water for the past two months and we are forced to live like pigs.
“We cannot bath or use the toilet to relieve ourselves.
“It’s especially tough on the kids. They can’t go to school because they are told there’s no water at school either.
“We risk our lives just to get water. The road there and back is dangerous, especially for women, because you never know if you might get raped or if something bad is going to happen to you.
“Government doesn’t care about our wellbeing, and it breaks my heart.”
A Joburg Water spokesman told Daily Sun they are dealing with the matter.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” he said.
