THE Enhlanhleni Isibani Sezwe organisation believes that people should put the interests of others before their own and help those in need.
On Friday the non-profit organisation, which relies on donations from wholesalers, donated 30 pairs of school shoes to orphans in Clermont, Durban.
Some of them cried because they have never owned a new pair of shoes in their lives.
One of the orphans, Sphelele Ndlovu (17) said although his old school shoes were broken, he had no choice but to wear them.
“I am grateful that I will finally be wearing new shoes like the other kids at school.”
Founder Sibusiso Ntshangase said he started the organisation in 2005 after seeing the large number of orphans in the area.
He said that with the help of other residents they began helping the poor by giving them soup and food parcels.
“There were lots of families who went to bed hungry.
“We decided to give them a place where they could get a warm meal and a bed.
“We started doing house visits and fetching medication at the clinics for those who cannot walk.
“We always made sure they had something to eat before they took their medication.”
Sibusiso said that when the organisation realised the lines at the centre were getting longer, they decided to open the centre five days a week.
“After seeing that there were more people who came to our centre for food, we decided to extend our work days to provide for them.”
Sibusiso said although they are still running the centre, it is difficult because the number of people they help has increased.
“We would appreciate more donations.
“Times are tough at the moment, but we will keep helping the community with anything that we have.”
