POPPY Mahlakola and his friend were the best at playing dice and on Saturday, they won two games and left with over R3 000.
However, as the 35-year-old from Angelo squatter camp in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, and his friend, Sello Baile (34) made their way home they were followed by thugs who wanted their winnings.
Poppy was moered and left for dead and he still doesn’t know what happened to Sello!
“I only heard the men as they grabbed me and started beating me.
“I tried to fight back but they overpowered me. I don’t know what happened to Sello,” Poppy told Daily Sun.
He said he woke up in hospital full of bruises and unable to walk properly.
“I suspect people who saw us winning must have followed us as we walked home.
“I’m really worried . . . I don’t know what happened to my friend and whether he’s dead or alive,” Poppy said.
He said he was still in pain from the attack.
“The robbers used steel rods and other blunt objects to beat me.”
A missing person’s case was opened at Boksburg Police Station.
Sello’s cousin, Jan Mohlala, said they went to the place where Poppy was found by the ambulance to look for Sello but he was nowhere to be found.
“We have been to local hospitals, mortuaries and even the police station but there is no sign of him. I don’t know where these people could have taken him,” he said.
“We are worried and we are appealing to anyone who has information to contact us.”
Poppy said he had not opened a case yet but would do so when he felt better. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Daniel Baile on 072 192 0767 or Jan on 084 353 7024.
