GOGO Rhoda was woken on Sunday morning with the news that her son had been found lying in a pool of blood.
“I took my walking stick and ran to find out what had happened,” she said.
Rhoda Mngomezulu (78) from Dlamini, Soweto told Daily Sun her son Sipho Mngomezulu (49) was lying badly injured in hospital.
Rhoda said no one wants to tell them what happened on Saturday night.
“My son was left bleeding on the concrete floor. No one called an ambulance for him,” she said.
She said the neighbours told her Sipho was allegedly beaten by his wife and the wife’s boyfriend and they kept on drinking while Sipho was lying unconscious on the floor.
“I have told him many times to stay away from his good-for-nothing wife,” she said. “Two years ago he was beaten up. He opened a case but then it was dropped.”
She said she is praying to God to keep him away from the makoti from hell.
“I’m paying for funeral cover on his behalf because I fear what will happen,” she said.
“Sipho is in hospital and he can’t speak, but my daughter-in-law continues to drink without a care in the world.
“I hope this is a wake-up call for him. If he doesn’t leave that woman he will leave the house in a body bag,” said Rhoda.
Daily Sun spoke to Sipho’s wife Manunu Mngomezulu, who said Sipho wasn’t injured in the house.
“We heard he fell and that is where the blood comes from,” said Manunu.
Manunu’s sister said Sipho had been drinking all day. “It is not our problem that he is weak and drank too much,” she said.
The police have advised the family to open a case as soon as Sipho is discharged and can speak.
