A YOUNG goat herder made a shocking discovery on Wednesday when he followed his dog into a stream.
The 13-year-old found the body of a man in the water in K section of KwaMashu, north of Durban.
The boy informed adults, who called the cops.
The body was that of Sithembiso Sithole (26) from J section. At the time ofthe discovery he had been missing for a few days.
His mum, Bonakele Dladla (44), told Daily Sun he went missing on Sunday after he was seen sitting at a local tavern with five men.
“I heard they had an argument and the guys chased after him. On Monday I started looking for him in hospitals but he was nowhere to be found,” she said.
“I reported him missing at the police station and later received a call from the cops saying his body had been found in a stream.”
Bonakele suspects her son was beaten and thrown in the stream.
One of Sithembiso’s friends (26), who was with him at the time of the incident, said he got into an argument with the men and hit one of them with a beer bottle.
“Sithembiso left us to join them at their table and we don’t know why they argued. He then ran away but they followed him.”
Bonakele said although sad she was grateful he was found.
“Had it not been for the boy and his dog I would not have found my son.”
Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident and said the man was allegedly beaten to death. A case of murder has been opened but no arrests have been made.
