GAY activist Thando Dyamara (24) said a security guard klapped and humiliated him outside a supermarket in Khayelitsha on 12 January.
“He slapped me on the face and made sure everyone heard his nasty utterances,” said Thando.
Thando said the guard allegedly hit him after he asked him to look after the bag he was carrying.
The bag contained clothes for Thando’s little brother.
“I asked him nicely to look after the bag while I went to buy bread inside,” said Thando.
“He said he wouldn’t be ordered around by a moffie. The angry guard said f#$k you moffie. I will kick you until you shit yourself because you have no right to keep your bag here.”
Thando claims the guard slapped him so hard that he cried.
“I cried because I felt humiliated by a homophobe who was much taller and beefier than me,” he said.
“I couldn’t dare to fight back against him.
“Even though I cried, he showed no pity or remorse. He just stared at me as if nothing had happened.”
Thando now wants the guard to be arrested so that he can learn to respect gay rights.
“I want him to spend a long time in prison so that he can learn to respect other people’s sexual orientations,” said Thando.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk said: “We can confirm that a common assault charge was opened and we are still investigating the matter.”
