PATIENTS were turned away at Nsimbini Clinic near Folweni, south of Durban, yesterday morning.

This is after the store where medicine is kept andthe documents office were destroyed on Sunday night.

Some residents thought the arson attack could be linked to the recent violent protests over their candidate councillor.

But nurses said they suspected the clinic was petrol bombed by someone who works there!

A nurse said they believed that the arson attack had nothing to do with the ongoing political protests in Folweni.

“There are ongoing internal battles that make us uncomfortable. We now fear for our lives.”

Resident Nomathemba Mbongwa (39) said she was worried because she couldn’t get her TB medication.

“I don’t know what to do because we don’t have any other clinic nearby.”

Community leader Tsepo Ntanzi said: “Residents decided to stop their protests last month. We don’t believe the torching is linked to the grievances of the community.”

Major Shooz Magudulela said a case of arson has been opened at Folweni Police Station for investigation, and that no arrest has been made.
