TWO suspects briefly appeared before the Maluti Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with a theft case.

The suspects aged 27 and 35 are charged with house breaking after they allegedly cut a fence and broke into a storeroom used by Avondale cops to store exhibits.

Three suspects, one of whom is still on the run, are said to have stolen 10 bags of dagga, 50 rounds of ammunition, a wood cutter and other items.

The robbery took place at about 2am while the cops were inside the charge office.

They only realised later that there was a problem.

Their investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects.

Captain Raphael Motloung said: “The suspects cut the padlocks before gaining entry. All the stolen items were kept as exhibits to be used in court. Three suspects were involved but one is still at large.”

Motloung said they suspect it was an inside job. “An investigation will be held and evidence presented. It is shocking that people disrespect the law so much that they can steal from a police station.”
