TO ENSURE kids are learning in a safe space, police are raiding schools in different kasis to search for illegal goods.

In the latest raid on Friday, cops from De Deur and the Vaal Rand arrived unannounced at a school in Weilers Farm, south of Joburg.

During the surprise visit the police went into classrooms to search students and their school bags.

Police spokeswoman Constable Maria Maketekete said when the cops entered the toilets they found dagga hidden inside a book belonging to one of the pupils.

“When questioned, the pupil pointed out a house where dagga is being sold to pupils. The cops also went to another house and bust three suspects,” said Maketekete. They confiscated dagga valued at R1 590.”

The four suspects will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court today charged with possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.

Maketekete said cops will continue carrying out raids without giving out the names of the schools beforehand.
