LADYBRAND stock theft cops said they have bust a well-known stock thief.
Cops waited patiently for thieves to arrive at a farm in Hobhouse to steal 31 sheep on Saturday.
Xuma said: “On 19 November we received information about planned stock theft at a farm in Hobhouse. The two officers patrolled the area, making sure they were not seen by the suspects.
“They watched as the two suspected thieves raided a kraal with a large number of sheep which they drove to a nearby empty dam. It is believed one of the suspects is the same suspect terrorising farmers along the border of Lesotho and South Africa.
“Investigations are still underway and according to Warrant Officer Tebogo Mnqebisa, there was a possibility that the suspect could be linked to stock theft cases reported all along the borderlof Lesotho and South Africa,” he said.
Sergeant Martin Xuma said the State would oppose bail because they were a flight risk.
Xuma added that the stolen sheep, valued at R35 000 were returned to the owner and the two suspects will appear in the Ladybrand Magistrates Court soon.
